Childhood obesity is a growing disease that has more than doubled in children in the past 30 years. Children are consuming more calories in a day than they need without any physical activity throughout the day. This leads to health issues, such as high blood/cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and a greater risk of social and psychological problems.
High blood pressure and cholesterol are big factors when talking about childhood obesity. High blood pressure and cholesterol are rare for a children and are often assed with adults, for being overweight and not participating in physical activities. Child hood obesity increases the risk of having high blood pressure and cholesterol especially if you have a family history with these medical problems. According to American Academy of Pediatrics “50% of hypertension is due to obesity and this rises to 85-95% by adolescent years” (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2015, para 1). Children these days are consuming more food than they need and not being active is not helping their cause. Exposure to a highly sugar and sodium diet can lead to health problems like with their heart and kidney, this is not something people expect children to have. Child hood obesity can increase long term medical problems, children need to have more of a nutritional diet, especially at a young age when their bodies are growing. Having a healthy diet and being active can be beneficial for children because they would have more energy and be much stronger, which can…
