Brotherhood, leadership, and my belief in the future of agriculture has led me to be a proactive member in my local FFA chapter. At the age of 13, I was prompted to join the organization to strengthen my leadership skills and make new connections. So I decided to take the leap and join the organization that would eventually change my life.
The National FFA Organization is a unique extra-curricular. I have had the chance to lead a parliamentary procedures team, recite the FFA creed, and become a state champion in entomology. Opportunities have always been limitless with career development events such as: food science, agribusiness, aquaculture, and job interview. The diverse and numerous options have made the organization a popular choice for

I was put into a leadership role and flourished under the guide of my advisor. Officer nature retreats were used to unify and strengthen the officer team, so that we could figure out the best way to lead the chapter together. Special conferences, such as COLT and 360, were available, which is where I discovered what I would be good at and which events would be beneficial for my chapter. The organization has allowed me to become comfortable in my own skin. I have made many valuable connections that will be advantageous later in life, and I have become more confident in my presentation abilities. As a person who was terrified to even talk on the phone, in fear of embarrassing herself, I credit the National FFA Organization with the fact that I am now able to work in a job that requires me to interact with people all day. Another thing that makes the organization so important to me is the feeling of being a part of something bigger than myself. The National FFA Organization has 649,355 members in 7,859 chapters throughout the United States, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Knowing that so many people also believe in the promise of better days through better ways, makes me grateful to be involved with such a wonderful organization. Knowing that more than half a million people wear the signature blue, corduroy jackets that proudly declare our names and home states, fills me with a joy that I have never experienced

When I first joined FFA, I had no idea of the impact it would have on me. Funnily enough, I originally thought of it just as a stepping stool into become a veterinarian- obviously plans have changed. And although my original goal and reason for joining has changed, I’m grateful that I did join, because FFA has impacted me in more ways than one. It goes beyond other experiences because as far as an educational experience goes, it has taught me a great deal than I ever expected. FFA has gone beyond just teaching me about cows, plants, and farming, it’s taught me business, life and leadership skills.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

Leadership is imperative to supporting the foundation of succession in our society. It is important that we exercise our God given right to utilize our sphere of influence to the best of our abilities. Although leadership may gain you more recognition throughout society it is not about the affluence one can acquire; leading is solely about guiding others down a path of success so that future generations can more easily learn from our mistakes to pass down to the next generation. That is why I believe mentoring and any position of leadership should be central to young adults to set the example for the impactful youth. I found my sphere of influence to be within the academic driven chapter of the National Honor Society which in my senior year I was elected president.…

Shortly after arriving on campus, the Mu Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha caught my attention because I realized that they play an integral role in various student organizations. One of my first experiences came when I attended a Black Student Movement meeting and everyone in attendance was to pair up to write notes to elementary school students. The president of BSM, Tre Shockley, walked up to me and asked to pair for the assignment. While up with me while writing the note he talked to me my experiences on campus so far and about BSM. At the time of the conversation I did not know he was an Alpha, but he was willing to reach out to a first-year and that made me feel more comfortable as I was still trying to figure out how to navigate a large university.…

My leadership experience began when my supervisor and his colleagues had an important meeting to attend and had no one sitting in on the office for intake office hours, so he asked me and another intern, Isaiah, to sit in from 9 AM-3PM. My supervisor taught us the main component of this position in 10 minutes. At first, I was nervous because I was new to the agency and it was my first time performing front desk duties. But after a couple of clients I began to get more comfortable and confident with the process because I had performed similar duties when I was in my cubicle. At this moment I felt like I was a leader because I was put in a position where I had minimum training, but still could take control of the office duties, and according to my supervisor, my performance level was beyond expectations.…
