The Systemic Dimensions of Family If the family is the genesis of all of our struggles with self, then the family should be where solutions are fostered and created. Family of origin issues linger, even your family isn’t around. Family of origin issues influence the way we proceed with life, and while individuals can achieve great things with a dysfunctional family of origin, true changes to the dynamic spread from the individual to the rest of the family system. Self-differentiation within the system removes old and worn roles that family assigns, allowing family of origin issues to be managed or eliminated for every member involved.…
Family Theory Assessments and Application of Family Interventions According to the Family Theory, each part of a system is interrelated, dependent on each other, and affects one another (Codina Leik, 2014). Therefore, if one part of the system is damaged or dysfunctional, such as one member of a family, the rest of the system or family is also affected (Codina Leik, 2014). It is extremely important to incorporate this theory into assessments and family interventions in primary care. Both of my preceptors incorporated this system into their assessments and care.…
Some are unaware of how much a child’s home life and family can affect their social skills, morals, success in school, and even health. A child’s home life will almost always effect the overall outcome of that child in all aspects of his or her life. It is common that a child will often turn out like their family members. This is important because if a child comes from a broken or unstable home it may affect him or her in a negative way. I think that it is absolutely necessary that all people understand the importance of giving a child their needs.…
As a CCLS we take on a code of ethical responsibilities to provide psychosocial care to infants, children, youth, and families regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, values, nationality, or disability. To be a quality care provider one must be aware of their personal biases and be able to leave them at the door, thus to not allow these biases or personal beliefs to interfere with the quality of care provided to every patient and family. A major role of a CCLS is to serve as an advocate in the hospital setting and in the transition back to school. As a CCLS we may encounter children and parents in the LGBTQ community.…
Many adult issues focus on well-being and future of oneself, the peaceful relationship between family members and the continuation of familial ties. Child issues tend to be more petty and of no consequence, because children concern themselves with mediocre or short sighted issues. Relationships between siblings that have tremendous age gaps tend to lean toward a parental or guardianship range of emotions, including love, pride and frustration. 2. She may have to make a swift decision in order to avoid an argument between her mother and her sister.…

D1/D2/A1/A*2 For the theme Children and young peoples development I will be focusing on how different factors can effect a child's social and emotional development. I have chosen two key issues to talk about regarding children's development. The two key issues I will be discussing are how family structure can effect children's social and emotional development and how day care can effect children's social and emotional development. I have chosen these two key issues to talk about as I feel that they are vital factors than can have effects on children's social and emotional development in positive and negative ways.…
Continuity of Parental Favoritism and Sibling Rivalry Many people might believe that parental favoritism is only in childhood. In reality, parental favoritism has lasting effects on both the parent-child relationship and on the children themselves. “In this study, last-born adult children were substantially more likely to be named as those to whom their mothers were most emotionally close, and firstborn children were most likely to be chosen as those to whom their mothers would turn in crises or when facing personal problems” (Suitor and Pillemer, 2007). This study shows that parental favoritism, specifically a mother, continues into adulthood.…
Violence is defined by the World Health Organization as “the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against one-self,another person,or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm,or deprivation”. We define the family as the social group to nurture us,instruct us in social and moral values, and protect us from harm. This is the case in virtually every post-industrial society where people from “relatively isolated and autonomous small family units” tend to depend emotionally on their immediate family (Williams,1970,p.91) Family violence occurs in physical-emotional and psychological forms and includes child abuse, spouse, homicide, abuse of the…
Couples Interview Couples are an interesting family dynamic and, in this profession, counselors will experience working with many different types of couples. Personally, I have worked with couples who are enduring relationship difficulties. The challenges that they face are many, yet I believe counseling is a great resource for couples to discuss their issues with a third party and strengthen their relationship. I decided to interview a couple I know fairly well but wanted to learn more about how they come together and how they manage different aspects of their life.…
Dysfunctional Families Do you and your parents get along? Do you feel like you have big responsibilities also not enough time for yourself or your friends, plus parents making dreams and goals for you when you don’t necessarily look up to those dreams and goals, as well as forcing you to take sides, getting involved in their arguments by force? If this sounds like you, then you my friend come from a dysfunctional family so you need to know how to deal with it plus knowing how it could be a bad impact on anyone 's life. So in this essay I will show what a dysfunctional family could do to in anyone’s life, how to deal with it, also comparing it to Chris McCandless’s life with his dysfunctional family. First thing first let…

For decades in psychology one topic that has always sparked an interest with researchers are the inner workings of the family dynamic. As a result of that interest a significant amount of research has been done. From this research psychologists figured out the best interventions, which can be implemented in order to improve the life of…
The families’ mood goes from positive to negative very quickly because they never stop to discuss what is really causing them stress. I will work with this family on a weekly basis to get to know the family, their daily functions, and to see what type of intervention process is needed. Life Cycle Adjustments In which stage of the life cycle is this family? Discuss. There is a new man in the house.…
Siblings can quite often be the longest relationship someone will have in their lifetime. Though many people hold the principle that having one child is the way to succeed in today's society and economy, the benefits to having multiple children is vast and expansive. The benefits outweigh the negatives to having siblings. Just as author Jeffrey Kluger states in his article The New Science of Siblings, from the time that we are born our siblings are our collaborators and co-conspirators, our role models and cautionary tales (395). The beneficial love, support, and influence on each other are some of the many bonds that are created.…
