Essay On Early Child Observation

The event was organized by Early Childhood Community Development Centre (ECCDC).
The event was presented by Ginette Wilson, BA Hons, RECE Early Learning and Child Care Program Consultant.
The intended audience at the event were mostly Niagara College ECE students and students from different schools too, RECE’s, parents and Infant and Toddler teachers from different schools.
The format of presentation was nice and organized. There were snacks on one side of the gym. Tables were all set up in the middle of the gym and different activity areas for hands on experience and fun were set up at the back of the gym. After talking and discussing about the infant and toddler room environment and behaviors, we had a little 5 minutes loo break and later on towards the end we had some fun with the activities set up at the back of the gym. In the end we were handed over our certificates. All the hands on activities at the back of gym and on the tables in front of us were great items to learn from (some of the activities were sensory foot pads, mirror tunnel, scooping exercise, etc.), we were allowed to take pictures of the activities for our future references. I had a fun time playing with those activities. The PowerPoints were great, it talked about some new things that I was not aware of and some terms that I heard for the first time like Schema play. It was nicely organized. There were few videos too relating toddler play but unfortunately the internet was down at the time of presentation, but I watched it later at home. The content was really nice, it was knowledgeable, new and fresh and was also including old traditional believes of children

The time frame that I was scheduled for was difficult to get the activities in. I was there from 5-6p and the students ate dinner from 5-5:20p, then the bus would come and most all of the kids throughout the center would leave either by the bus or parents around 5:30. The most successful activity that we completed was when the girls choreographed dance moves to a song or dancing to a song they already knew the dance moves to. I was surprised on how they knew the dance moves to certain songs that I have listened to and didn’t even know that there was a dance to. The other…

When I walked into the preschool classroom, I noticed it was very large and very spacious which allowed enough space for each child. Natural light, provided there was no glare in the room, was able to help students learn more effectively. Upon entering the class, I quickly noticed all the children curiously turn to look who I was while they were having large group time for half an hour. During that time, they sang songs, had calendar time and the teacher did an overview of the day. I was very impressed at how cooperative they were for her.…

For my middle childhood observation I observed one of my students in the class I volunteer for. He is a nine year old boy in the third grade. I observed his work habit and behavior during one of their English lessons. In the beginning of the lesson, he was quiet and wouldn’t talk to anyone. He would sit with his arms crossed and stared at the board.…

When the patient was in labor and began pushing, I aided in supporting one of her legs while the nurse supported the other. I think it was truly amazing to see a child being brought into the world. The postpartum care was also a teamwork. While my preceptor was getting the ice pack, I filled the peri-bottle with warm water and placed dry tower on the bathroom floor to prevent falls. I remembered from class lecture to check for clots in the urine because abnormal size (golf ball size) can be concerning.…

Child development can be defined as the psychological and biological changes that happen in children between birth and the end of adolescence. There are certain steps in development that each child takes however, each child progresses at a different rate. While observing I saw this to be the case, my child observation was on a fifteen-month, year old boy named Hunter. By this age a child should be walking and saying at least five words. These words include mama, Dada, dog, ball, no.…

I was thinking that observation is one of most important elements in teaching young children. Even if I knew that it is important, I did not know the methods and skills to observe the children. By spending time in the classroom every week doing observations helped me a lot to practice and gain the right skills to observe a child. I was able to catch more behaviors in children that I have not noticed before because I was more cautious and tried to see in details of children’s behaviors.…

There is a marked distinction in the cognitive skills and the reasoning ability of the children interviewed. The younger child which was 6 years old could not understand that the whole pizza whether cut in four or eight pieces was the same whole. He believed that the more pieces you have the bigger the pizza. He does not have the ability to think logically and perception is priority in preference to logic. Egged and Kauchak (2016) states, “perception dominates children;s thinking in this stage” (p. 50).…

Most of the presentations were done by showing a video, or a PowerPoint. In my opinion, the mediums used were well put together and done exceptionally well. It gave me the opportunity to understand the background stories of other students and how they grew up. Meeting someone for the first time, after 18 years of their life is hard to adapt to a new friendship with that person. This project was a great way to showcase ourselves and describe our childhood in the medium of our…

Most of the activities required students to create and work with manipulatives which made students want to participate in the activities. The students were also able to take home with them materials, and things created, to their houses which was kind of a perk of participating in the activity. In addition, the event was well organized by the school, as the teachers small booths were placed in the cafeteria so families can go and choose the activity they wanted to complete. Something that I will criticize about the event was the fact that some students did not even participate in some booths, but just went to the booth to get a…
