Everyone likely read a book as a child not realizing the impact it would continue to have on them throughout their life. What seemed like minor life lessons and themes hidden throughout the children’s books eventually ends up shaping each individual into who she or he is today. There were many themes from childhood books that have formed me into who I am today, but one of the themes that stuck with me the most was the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, which I never thought when reading about two little mice. Each of us have hard times in our lives and it can be hard to acknowledge that other people have hard times as well and not just see the joyous times others are experiencing in his/her life. I have personally seen people in my life who’s lives seemed perfect from the outside, which can cause feelings of jealousy, but in reality they were experiencing very similar hardships to what I was facing. One of the hardest obstacles I have faced in my life thus far is being told I had scoliosis. At first it didn’t seem like the biggest deal to me until I was told I would have to wear a brace for my back for two to three years. I overcame the obstacles of wearing the brace, but I continued to have back pain and was made to make an extremely difficult decision. I had to decide whether or not to continue playing volleyball, knowing that if I continued to play more stress would be put on my back creating more pain. In the end I gave up the sport I love, but I also grew and realized that I was not the only one experiencing obstacles in my life and as perfect as others’ lives may seem each of us have to deal with our own
