Imagine being seven years old and having to work in factors or the mines to stay alive. Children were useful as laborers because their size allowed them to move in small spaces in factories or mines where adults couldn’t fit. Children also were easier to manage and control and perhaps most importantly, children could be paid less than adults. In the 1800’s the Industrial Revolution occurred, this was a time that was brought by the introduction of machinery. Industries were growing and the mass production of manufactured goods were developed. The rise of industrialization brought problems to society as well as benefits. One problem was harsh working conditions of British children.
