The reason why it’s important to discuss developmental milestones with families regularly from the beginning is because we need to help the child achieve the milestones. When the caregivers aren’t present, it’s important for the family members to try and help the child at home with achieving the milestone. From the beginning to the present, many things could change in the child’s developmental milestones. Like to see if the child has made any progress since the beginning and if they did then head towards the new milestone and if not think of ways to help achieve the milestone. I thought that Ms. Carolyn communicated nicely with David’s mom. She went and straight told her how he was doing while keeping it professional. The way that I feel how Ms. Carolyn was able to keep the mom engaged with the program is by telling her that she was able to get a parent’s kit from the same website where she got her stuff. She also told her about the extra things like the 5 year milestones booklet and the growth chart. I would like to try and do weekly meetings with the families and interact with using the milestones chart and show how their children is doing. I would like to show them the growth chart with the milestones and hopefully can get conversations on how we can continue his milestones at home.

It also gives you opportunities to also say the good things while discussing the areas that need improvement. The reason why I think this is accurate is because you just don’t want to say, “Oh, John isn’t picking up the pencil right.” You want to be honest and respectful of the child and want to make the parents feel welcomed as well and respect them.
