In both the EYFS and KS1 it is expected that children will be able to access outdoor areas to play and learn. Physical development is one of the three prime areas of learning and development. It is required that children are encouraged to understand the importance of physical activity, and they should have access to outdoor activities every day where possible.

For infants they suggests that they should be encouraged to play on the floor, including time on their front and not be sat in chairs or restrained. Children who can walk should be active for at least three hours throughout the day and not spend long sitting.
