1.0 Introduction
Childcare industry is a child care that provides education and care for young children. In Malaysia, there are two types of institutions that offered Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) programmes which are childcare centres or nurseries or taska and pre-schools or kindergartens or tadika.
An early child care centre (ECCC) is defined as premises or businesses that provide childcare services for working parents for the education or care of four children or more children under the age of four years from a household which are cared by persons other than parents for on a fee basis.
Nowadays, most parents who are employed or engaged in other activities send their kids to childcare centres to look for their children.
Childcare centres in Malaysia can be categories into four which are: Home-based childcare centres with fewer than 10 children, Institution-based childcare centres with 10 children or more, workplace childcare centres and government-owned childcare centres (Taska dalam komuniti since 2006). The requirements for setting up ECCC (TASKA) set by Department of Social Welfare (DSW) are as follows :
i. Registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) or the Registrar of Societies (ROS). TASKA at home are excluded ii. Meet JKM minimum standards:
a. The ratio between caretaker and child are sufficient;
• under 3 years old = 1 : 5 • 3 to 4 years old = 1 : 10
• Handicapped Children (OKU) = 1 :
