Here, at Happy Faces, an evaluation from the ASQ exam is carried out for each registered child in the program within the first 45 days, and later, an evaluation is carried out every year. If necessary, Child Development Services can be referred to determine if the child requires a diagnosis which will help the child improve his growth and learning. The parents or guardians will become acquainted of their child’s results in each area of development and a goal can be set to improve the child’s development within the program, in any of the areas that the child may have a deficiency on or the mentioned agency can be referred and make an action support plan for the child. Just on account of this, we try to maintain the same teachers and assistants, so that the children can have a better development and improve their interpersonal confidence. Our personnel is trained with the Early Learning Division of the Oregon Child Care Office rules. The requirements are being registered in the Oregon Criminal Registry, have the food handling card, the first aid card and cardio-pulmonary respiration for both pediatric and adults. Also, have the training to recognize and report abuse and negligence towards a child, and it is required to have child development training and at least 18 hours a year and previous experience obtained from other child care centers. Happy Faces license is of Certified Family Care and for the maximum quantity of 16 children. In the infants lounge we have a teacher per 4 children, in the young children lounge is a teacher per 4 young children, and in the kindergarten and school age is a teacher per 8 children. In general, there will be a 4th assistant who will cover break time and support any of the teachers, when they need it.

As well as participating in all of our children’s activities, including cleanup time, and using positive comments which encourage the child. Moreover, recognize and validate our children’s emotions, centering activities’ interactions and the child’s interests and utilizing positive guides of our resource, the Creative Curriculum. All of our personnel has access to the Creative Curriculum. The infants and young children lounges share the Creative Curriculum for Infants and Young Children. The Kindergarten class has their own Creative Curriculum as well. In each of the directive-personnel meetings, the guides are revised, and ways to improve and implement them are discussed. New personnel is trained on how to use the curriculum for a better performance and how to implement it for child development, as well as how to foment good practices between adults and children.
