Young people want to better their lives by moving to the United States and marrying someone who will provide for them. Many times those who are a part of the mail order bride business have no idea what they are getting themselves into. Often times those who do participate in such said thing are oblivious to how the person really is. Like in Emelita’s case she knew little about her husband, Jack, who had two previous mail order brides which he killed. ”Male” brides are not often discussed and are not considered a commercial commodity like Filipina brides, but they deal with similar experiences as their female counterparts” (Sico 200). We have a mindset that since we are a thriving country we do not deal with the trafficking that happens overseas; to an extent that is true but it still can happen. Although child trafficking can happen in little cities or even towns it is most common in larger cities. ” According to the FBI,there are currently an estimated 293,000 American children at risk of being exploited and trafficked for sex” (Saar).
