Child Soldiers Research Paper

Children run into gunfire, knowing that they might not see their parents again. A man is commanding them to shoot at people at the other end of the smoke, when out of nowhere a child is snatched up and taken away. This child soldier is put on trial for crimes he had committed during his service in the army. And his sentence? It’s like an adult’s. This child is given no amnesty for his crimes and is sent away. These children, who are barely old enough to know right against wrong, should be given amnesty for their crimes.

Now, you may be asking, what is a child soldier? Well, a child soldier is a kid from around nine to 16 years of age forced to go into the army. These children are put into grotesque living conditions and are forced to work for the military. Some kids choose to join them because of the allusion of better living conditions, but most are forced into it. These kids are taken and shaped like clay into killing machines. From these facts alone, child soldiers are clearly the victims. They are not only damaged physically, but mentally as well. Notice that all of these countries are poor and falling apart at the seams, having barely any funding for their military. Many people would take advantage of this governmental confusion and use children as weapons of war, not thinking twice about the child’s life or their possibly future. This torture may seem medieval, but it is not. The subject of child soldiers is not old news. These kids are being used to this day for things like labor, sex, and, of course, as soldiers. And while the cause for using children may seem justifiable, it is not. There is no humane way to use a child for labor without consequences.
