Child Soldiers Research Paper

Decent Essays
Are child soldiers victims or perpetrators? To some people it really depends on their origin. If they want to fight and have the feeling to kill, I would consider them perpetrators, if they are forced to kill and don't want to, they are victims.

A lot of people are asking this question, should child soldiers be given amnesty? Many might say it's not their fault because they are forced to kill. Others might say it is their fault because they have the choice to do this or not, but what they don't know is that if they try and refuse to join them, they will be shot immediately. So they don't have much say in this. For them it's either kill or be killed.

Most kids that are put into the front lines are kidnapped, and tricked into vans to go fight

In the war many children are enlisted to fight. They are instructed to injure innocent people such as strangers and possibly even family members. What shocks people the most about this is that children, who are all under the age of 18, are completing these harsh acts. Enlisting into the war as a child soldier could end with prosecution or no punishment. Children are forced by commanders through false promises, drugs, and things that are difficult to picture.…

Some kids choose to join them because of the allusion of better living conditions, but most are forced into it. These kids are taken and shaped like clay into killing machines. Child soldiers a children who go into war with their country and many are in Africa's most dangerous places. Most child soldiers don't know what to do because they're either too young or don’t know anything about war or guns. Here we will see where most child soldiers are at and were in the world they are or what is happening now or before they joined. I support That they should not go on trial because its not really their fault, because they might of being forced or did not have someone to live with and was brought into the child soldiers army. And Most of the Children were forced to join or they would get killed, also they might of grown up with someone who was in the army of child soldiers and wanted to keep going with child soldiers.…

They are blamed for the crimes they committed to others, but it should be taken into account how they were also the victims of these shameful events. They were succumbed to do these things with the thought that they were doing the right thing. The article states, ““Child soldiers should not be prosecuted on account of what they have done but should rather be rehabilitated and given a second chance to re enter society as a human beings”(IRIN). This is significant because it shows tells the idea of how child soldiers were not treated as human beings but rather as objects that the army uses at their own expense without a care in the world. Perhaps if we were to take a look into their world we would understand the frustrations of being a child soldier and not being able to help yourself or others.…

The Secret Danger that Military Children Face You often see or about military personnel or their families in the news. One popular way that people see this in today's society, is when someone films a military man or woman returning home as a surprise for their loved ones. This is often associated with tears, crying, lots of hugging, and maybe a few punches. While this is very heartwarming and often causes others to tear up with the families, there is a side to the military that people often don't hear about or see.…

"Their military parent signed on the dotted line; their children did not. Yet, they must deal with deployments, frequent moves and school transitions, and they do so with courage and grace" (Sanchez). Military children face situations that many children their age never have to face, such as their parents leaving in deployments, the constant three-year moves, separations from loved ones, and stress of the military. When people think of these military children, the first thing they think about is how these children are different and face their parents' constant absence. Unless they are part of the military, however, most people have little understanding of the military life and how this life affects the family, specifically the children.…

I have developed this opinion after conducting research on this topic. I have discovered that child soldiers are often forced into fighting through false promises. They are also forced into fighting through drugs and alcohol. The drugs, often cocaine mixed with gun powder, brainwash the children to the point where they would rather not escape from the horror unravelling around them. I personally believe anyone who has to submit to such horrors and atrocities should not be prosecuted for the crimes they committed.…

This helps illustrate the analysis that child soldiers should be granted amnesty because they are not able to as clearly discern what is right and what is wrong. Why this matters is that children, unlike adults, cannot tell that they are being taken advantage of and after they are brainwashed by their commanders they don't know what they are doing is a war crime. Some might say, however, that these child soldiers are choosing to volunteer for service and that is true to an extent, but as Ishmael Beah said, “ we were given a choice to leave or to fight, but everyone who left was killed.” So you see, these children really do have no choice whether to fight or to remain neutral among these…

Many argue a kill is a kill, children who murder need to be prosecuted for their actions. Not prosecuting child soldiers can be seen as an injustice to those the child soldiers murdered in cold blood. However, most children forced into armies are drugged and forced to murder, barely knowing what side they’re on. Everyday children are murdering each other, barely sane enough to know where to shoot, by saying that it is an injustice is unfair if the child soldiers who killed feeling it was their only chance at…
