particular, Uganda has struggled to disperse and suppress the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA)
founded from the “Holy Spirit Movement” in 1986 with the intention of bringing down the
Ugandan government. This army uses forced child recruitment to fill its ranks, and become a
formidable force. The Ugandan Army, with support from the international community, has
condemned the actions of the LRA and actively defended itself and its people. Uganda has had
to engage in bloody armed conflict against the LRA on Uganda’s own soil from 1986 to 2006.
During this time, approximately 66,000 children were abducted and forced to commit
abominable and scarring acts.
