Armed conflict has grown to be such a connected part of daily life in countless of the third world countries that it is primarily overlooked as the single utmost significant cause for the growing numbers of child soldiers. In many instances families are dispersed and the social support system falls short that children are left with no other choice but to unite with the diverse armed groups. Abandoned adolescence, failure of the social and family arrangements within a society, and the movement of children from their homes are several of the main reasons why children willingly join the armed services. “While many children are abducted and sent to fight others choose to join the armed groups after losing their relative or shelter.” (Washington Post). A former child solider from Sudan had stated, “we were forced and if we didn’t want to do it we were heavily beaten.” (BBC). One boy was asked the solider why they had to join the army and he would reply back with ‘to defend your tribe’. These children were easily persuaded and believed they were protecting their town. About 16,000 children have been drafted by government and rebel forced in Sudan. (Washington Post). They are foot soldiers boys and girls as young as nine. Numerous of these children were seized from either home or school. ABC Premium News had stated, “They are supposed to be sitting for exams, but hundreds of South Sudanese children are now feared to be on their way to the front line as the country of civil war drugs .” (ABC Premium News). They are young and vulnerable, and consequently compliant and faithful. In numerous circumstances, observing cruelty against family members push children to unite with armed groups to pursue“revenge”.
