Child sexual exploitation is a form of sexual abuse usually by males against young girls in exchange for money. It may involve forcible sex, rape, sodomy and molestation, and often result in cruel or harmful treatment (starvation and physical abuse) of the child.
According to stats found at dosomething.org, the average age a teen enters the sex trade, in the United States, is 12 to 14-year-old (9). Many victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children. These connections may begin as online dating and later progressing into a real life sexual encounters. The child may be deceived into believing she’s in an exclusive, loving, trusting and caring relationship and later pimped into prostitution, pornography, and other forms of sexual behavior.
We all have seen the television playout horrific scenes where young girls are drugged on a date or party and later wake up in an abandoned warehouse. The girls are forced to engage in sexual activities several times a day with men they don’t know while their owners make big buck. In real life this is no fairytale. This scene is played out over and over day after day throughout the nation.
Rhythms.org reports that every 30 seconds, somewhere in the world, a child is trafficked and sold into sex slavery (10). A child with low self-esteem and emotional problems is an easy target due to the affection displayed and fulfillment of emotional and physical needs in the initial phase.
