I will have a minor in special ed and will know how an IEP works and I could help the family develop one that is appropriate for their child. I would get a team together but I might be able to explain the different parts of the IEP. This family does know a lot what has happened to this boy, and how they can help him. The family got a house that was built in order to fit his needs. There are doors that a wider and rooms and spacious and the bathrooms are easy to help the boy out in. The mom tries to not medicate the boy so much but he is taking a lot of pills and the mom doesn’t think he needs them. She took the boy off of his seizure medicine for two years and didn’t have one. Now when she did put him back on them he is having 10-15 a day. I think that the doctors need to understand that maybe the mom knows more about the boy then the doctors do. She takes care of him everyday and she wants him to be happy and comfortable. There is not much that I could ever do for that. As a teacher I could agree with what the mom has to say and try to tell the doctors how he is in school. In conclusion, visiting with the family was very nice. It was simple and we got a lot of questions answered that everybody in the group wanted to know about. I learned a lot about shaken baby syndrome and it was interesting to see the affects many years after it happened. The mother was extremely helpful and caring. I hope that one day I will be able to be half the mom she
