When in class, lots of students shared their stories and experiences on how certain parents were lenient and how some parents were strict about gender roles on their children. I am from a culture that really accentuates people to stick on their traditional gender behavior, especially with the way they dressed up. My culture and the community where I live are so strict on people who wear or do certain things that are not ‘suitable’ for their gender. For example, people in my society opposed men who wear women’s clothes, vice versa. Because of that, we have been taught since we were kids to act certain ways and to wear certain clothes that are specific to our gender. It is also one of the reasons why I find it interesting to hear stories from another culture (Americans culture specifically) and how their parents’ deal with their kids when it come to this
