The Krasniqi family are Muslims, a religion not highly accepted in the U.S. Muslims have very different religious practices than a southern Baptist. Even though the case worker was aware of the children’s religion, she proceeded to place the children in a Baptist foster home where they would eventually be adopted. I believe the case worker did not agree with the Muslim religion, therefore she was trying to remove the children from any form of contact with the Muslim religion. The case worker was pretty bias throughout the whole case. If the case worker had been more accepting of the family’s religion and looked for a Muslim foster family, the outcome may have been very different. One of the main core values in the NASW code of ethics is social justice. The code of ethics also talks about cultural differences. In section 1.05 Cultural Competence and Social Diversity part A it states, Social workers should understand culture and its function in human behavior and society, recognizing the strengths that exist in all cultures.
