The CDF published an extensive report titled “Ending Child Poverty Now” that recommends several improvements which together could in America. A few of the most influential suggestions the CDF recommends is an increase in housing for poor families with children so all eligible families can afford a safe and stable place to raise their children (21% poverty reduction), making the Child Tax Credit fully refundable would reduce by 12%, and an increase of 30% in the value of SNAP benefits to cover a large portion of the nutritional needs of children would reduce poverty by 16%. Additionally, raising the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour so no one working full-time earns below poverty wages would decrease poverty between 4-8% in families with children living with a full-time year round-worker. Lastly, making the Child and Dependant Care Tax refundable and increasing its value would reduce child poverty by 1% and enable 101,000 parents to work. The Children’s Defense Fund reports that closing tax loop holes for the rich would pay for these improvements without raising the deficit, strategically investing more in what is already working, and educating policymakers at all levels of government about the importance of the information in the report would make an immense difference and impact the lives of so many families
