Michael had excellent gross motor skill for a nine-month year old. He could sit independently and roll front to back and back to front. He could sit independently for a couple of minutes and could go from a crawling position to a sitting position. Michael could crawl and hold an object in one hand while he crawled. He had good control and strength of his body when he crawled, and would use his knees to give him a boost. I observed that he could use furniture to prop himself up into a standing position and could stand without support for a couple of seconds. He could go from a standing position to a sitting position too. He was unable to walk independently, but could walk with some support from holding his mom’s hand or holding onto furniture.

During the observation, it was obvious that the youth being observed was within early childhood. The cognitive processes of this youth were clear in hearing the ways in which he played and reasoned with other youth specifically the female who was playing with him on what appeared to be an indoor playground. The youth being observed displayed a positive level of cognitive development as he gave instructions and asked questions. Though the youth’s interactions with other youth it was also observed that the youth displayed a great deal of executive function, which Berger (2016) explains as being, “The cognitive ability to organize and prioritize the many thoughts that arise from the various parts of the brain, allowing the person to anticipate,…

I hear him making all sorts of noises while playing with those objects, once a banana was a train, and a strawberry was a car, and a car strawberry crashed into a banana. When I asked him what happened and why he chooses the banana to be a train, he said it is because it is way longer than the strawberry. From that example I can see that he developed cognitive and object play. He also has a photogenic memory. My three-year goal is to get an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education so that I can become either a preschool teacher or a teaching assistant in an elementary school, preferably in the Glendale Unified School District. Preschool Teachers educate and care for children, usually ages 3 to 5, who have not yet entered kindergarten. They teach reading, writing, science, and other subjects in a way that young children can understand. During my research, I have found that teachers in Arizona are one of the lowest paid in the United States. The median wage for a preschool teacher in Arizona is $23,560/yr.…
