1. What was most interesting about this week’s study? In this week reading, I found it interesting in learning about the different changes adolescence children go through during their primary and secondary years of school. At birth, my children both weighed 10 lbs. 12 oz. but my daughter was 14 inches long and my son was 11 inches in length. Over the years when children were younger my daughter was always taller than my son but as they continued to grow and develop I noticed how my son has out grown her about 5 inches now. My daughter stands about 4’5 inches tall and my son is 4’10 inches tall. It amazes me how children grow and develop over a period of time.

As I walked down the toy section of Target I was looking for a toy that I would have used as a child. With the knowledge I have today I will be able to relate the toys I used as a child with toys used by girls and explore the role of toys in the socialization of children in sport and exercise. The toy that I choose was a Minion Big Wheel Tricycle. This toy was targeted more towards boys because on the front of the box there was a boy riding it. There were no girls on the box at all as well as the color scheme of the toy was boy colors themed.…

It may appear like just child’s play, but toddlers are hard at work learning important physical skills as they gain muscle control, balance, and coordination. This is what I learned the day I observed my 36-month-old niece when on a play date with two other toddlers. Through observation I was able to gain a good understanding of why play is so critical at this stage in their growth and development, and I believe that there is no better way to learn about these themes than by observing play in action. This paper will discuss my observations and how it compares or contrasts to what is expected in the development of toddlers. Comparisons Play amplifies toddlers’ physical and psychosocial development.…

This child study was completed in conjunction with EDUC 808: The Study of Normal and Exceptional Children Through Observation and Recording at Bank Street College of Education. The course began with the selection of a study child. I decided to work with Libby, a student in the second grade class in which I am an assistant teacher. I selected Libby as my study child because I have found that it was harder to get to know her on a personal level, as compared with other children in the class. I wanted to get to know Libby better and this was an ideal opportunity.…
