Therefore, in this activity Lulu and I will talk about animals. Materials needed for this activity will be an animal book, that includes different animals. Construction paper and a pencil will also be needed. While doing this activity Lulu will be asked open ended questions similar to common animals, which animals are her favorite, and the number of animals. While I’m asking questions Lulu will be drawing her favorite animal on the construction paper. When she finishes her drawing we will then place the name of the animal on the paper. In this activity I will be observing her use of language when she expresses her thoughts. I also will be able to see if she understands complex language. Vanessa Junior has been passionate about language arts since the age of 6. She continues to show strength in that area. How I would help her in this area is that I would talk to Vanessa Junior as a baby, read to her, and bring her to different social occasions so people could interact with her. My observation is that she continues to do well in language arts because of the activities I do with her to improve her literacy skills. Vanessa Junior has had an interest in science since being a little girl.…

When it comes to raising children we’ve all either heard of or have had personal experiences with ‘grandma’s’ way of doing things; the old-fashioned way. Like for instance, when I had my first child, rather than having her on an eating schedule (every 8 hours) like the doctor prescribed, my grandmother thought that every time my baby cried she was hungry and she demanded that I feed her; saying the doctors didn’t know what the heck they were talking about. Claiming that she should be porky and healthy rather than skinny and hungry; which she was. She grew to be the chunkiest little cutest lil baby you ever saw. However; there was nothing scientific to my grandmothers’ approach; hmm, other than having raised fourteen children of her own,…

I was thinking that observation is one of most important elements in teaching young children. Even if I knew that it is important, I did not know the methods and skills to observe the children. By spending time in the classroom every week doing observations helped me a lot to practice and gain the right skills to observe a child. I was able to catch more behaviors in children that I have not noticed before because I was more cautious and tried to see in details of children’s behaviors.…

This essay is a reflection on my child observation that was conducted for four weeks based on eight month old Annabel. It will first define observation then go on to identify themes and child observation literature reflecting on my experiance. The model used for my observation was the Tavistock, originally developed by Ester Bick (1964)(cited in Le Riche & Tanner, 2002) using a psychoanalytical ideologies from Klein and Bion. We were instructed to observe a child between 0-5 years of age for an hour without taking notes, directly after the observation was completed we would have to document it using a narrative style including my reflections over a period of six weeks (see appendix 2).…
