I used to spend too much time wondering why I was not good enough. The mirror was my worst enemy. Every time I saw myself in the mirror I saw a fat, ugly and worthless person. Like many other parents, my parents did not realize that they were raising a child to be overweight. I grew up as being the “fat kid” at school I was bullied for being overweight. The kids at school used to call me names because of my weight and that was the reason why I hated myself. The inner pain that I felt was destroying me and little by little my low self-esteem lead poor behavior. My low self-esteem lead me to an unhealthy relationship, where my previous partner used to put me down and mistreated me. I was strong enough to do something positive with a healthy diet and staying active I lost a big amount of weight. However, there are those children who are overweight and overtime they become obese. Child obesity is abuse because there are long term effects such as having poor health, psychological problems and engage in risky behaviors. Child abuse is physical and emotional maltreatment or neglect of a child and by not feeding a child nutritious foods and not promoting physical activity, you are abusing them.
Childhood obesity is defined as a form in which a child weights much more than normal for their height, sex and body frame. The Center for Diseases Control defines overweight as having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these…
