Child Neglect and Abuse
One day my mother, my father, my sister and I went hiking on a trail. When we arrived we had full mind that we were going to get lost maybe a little or a lot. So, we walked along the trail, laughing, telling stories, eating sunflower seeds and pretzels as we walked, taking photos and having a great time. When we attempted to exit the park it was much harder. The markers on the trees were almost completely faded but we made it back. But the trip back wasn't all filled with yelling and "We went this way not that way" or anything like that, we had fun and laughed. Some kids will never have that. Some kids are neglected by their parents and will never do things like a family hiking trip, they will always be confined to themselves …show more content…
"In 2010, (according to the Department of Health and Human Services), there were 3.3 million reports of alleged abuse to child agencies, involving 3.0 million children. About three-fifths of the reports were made by professionals (teachers, police, lawyers, care providers, and other social services staff). An estimated 695, 000 children were determined by child protective services to be victims of abuse. The rate of victims in the general population for people under 18 years old was 10 per 1, 000. In all cases of abuse, just over 80 percent of the abusers were parents. Up to half of all cases of abuse and neglect were associated with abuse of alcohol or other drugs by parents or caregivers. In recent years attitudes have shifted in favor of the state having a legitimate role in protecting women, families, and children. The courts and protective services of the United States generally recognizes categories of abuse and neglect as defined in the 1996 Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act. Virtually no one denies that state and federal governments have legitimate roles in protecting children from all forms of abuse"
