The family issue identified is Child Neglect and is defined as: “the failure of a parent, guardian or other caregiver to provide for a child’s basic need” (Children’s Bureau, 2013, p. 3).
Instrument Information
The instrument selected is the Neglect Scale which measures neglect of physical needs, emotional needs, supervisory needs, and cognitive needs (Straus, Kinard & William, 1997). It appears that this scale can be delivered in an interview or questionnaire format, and can help adolescents in sharing information related to their situation childhood or assist adults in recalling neglect that they encountered in their childhood (Straus, Kinard & William, 1997). http://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED411252.pdf
