Keeping the molester in prison or treatment facility for life, will decrease the cases of child molestation due to deterrence. The severity of punishment will cause those who have pedophilia to seek treatment and resist urges. By acting proactively we can prevent child molestation.
We have to treat child molesters on the same criminal level as murderers because they forcibly take rights from children that can forever alter the child’s life. Child molesters have not proven the ability to reform. Certain types of molesters have a medical condition which causes them to be sexually attracted to children. While cognative-behavioral treatment may help to control these impulses, constant, lifelong intensive monitoring combined with therapy is the only way to ensure the molester does not re-offend.
