The idea of licensed parenting seem to me like a quick fix to a more serious underlying problem that involves more than just “preparing”prospective parents. I personally don't see the benefits implementing it. In my opinion, we have to dig deeper to determine why child maltreatment happen and why some people are deemed unfit to be parents. Child maltreatment stem from a universal problem that involves parents and socioeconomic status. Studies have shown that maltreatment is “a symptom of extreme disturbance in child rearing, usually aggravated by other problems, such as poverty, lack of education, alcoholism, depression, or antisocial behavior ” (Mortorell, Papalia & Feldman, 2014).
