Child Interview Assignment

1. For this assignment, I interviewed a 48 year old woman who I will call Sophie Beck. Due to her parents’ failing memory, she does not know specific answers to some factors of her early life. However, she has been able to get most of the necessary information from them and make reasonable guesses. To start, as far as Sophie knows, no recessive or dominant gene diseases run in the family. Gene diseases can significantly shorten the lifespan, and even if they do not appear in the person, they can be carried on a recessive gene, that if paired with another recessive gene, will cause the disease. Luckily she has never developed any gene diseases. Sophie’s mother was responsible during her pregnancy. She never smoked during pregnancy or afterwards, significantly lowing the risk of many health deficits such as SIDS, low birth weight, or respiratory problems. Though Sophie was on the lower end of an average birth weight range, she never developed any of the above problems. Luckily, Sophie’s mother did not drink any alcohol while pregnant, so Sophie was not at risk for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and did not develop it. In …show more content…
During infancy, Sophie likely was most likely given formula for an unknown time, as breast-feeding was not as common in her mother’s generation. The (APA) recommends that mothers feed their children for at least 6 months breastfeeding exclusively, but it is good to feed up to a year with breastmilk and other foods. Breastfeeding has many benefits that bottle-feeding does not, such as preventing infections, allergies, asthma, diabetes, or obesity. Sophie has occasional seasonal allergies but does not have any symptoms of the above. Sophie was born with jaundice, ~~.
