Child Development

In the past couple of months, I’ve had the great pleasure of working with some amazing kids. In this program we worked on developing fundamental motor skills, we also worked on the intellectual part of learning. We accomplished this through teaching the children common motor skills. Each week the children improved at the motor skill, following the rules, and being courteous to others. In this report I will explain how the children improved, the purpose for the motor skill, and how they made and impact in my life. This program was taken place in a gym with an exciting outside day to end the program. The facilities were perfect for the type of program we were trying to establish. The purpose of this program is to design a plan to address the …show more content…
We used the S.H.A.P.E principle to base our plans for success. The main goal is to make sure that each child felt included and was being physically active in some way. Any physical activity is an indication that we accomplished our purpose for this program. In the gym each station was set up in the respectable corners. The stations were set up at a certain distance from each other to ensure focus at each of the stations. The program was organized, to where everyone could understand what was going on. The children understood where to go and what to do right off the bat. I feel that each child felt comfortable in this environment and they did not feel any pressure. After the children warmed up with the coaches it was time to go to their assigned station. After performing each skill at each station, we all came to the middle of the gym. Once in the middle we played the parachute game. This part of the program was most of the children’s favorite part. When each child got the chance to run under the parachute their face was full of excitement. Lastly, we all would come …show more content…
At my station I was joined by three other coaches. It was our duty to ensure that each child understood the correct way to kick a ball. We accomplished this by doing more of a one on one session. The coach and the child would kick to each other and the coach would help with form. Our main responsibility was to ensure that each child was having fun. The children would stay at our station for around 5-7 minutes. I believe that my leadership skills improved a lot by being apt of this program. I was elected as the team caption of our group. I’ve never been talkative to people I don’t know that much and being in a group that I didn’t really know everyone that made me overcome some insecurities that I possessed. One thing that I should work on is being confident in what I am saying and to enforce what I think should be

Last term our physical education periods revolved around preparing ourselves for a mountain biking camp in Hanmer Springs. In these periods we would bike as a class through the skinny tracks of North Hagley, the tough up and down hills next to the Avon River and around the rough grounds of Hagley. These rides helped us prepare emotionally and physically for the upcoming rides that happened in Hanmer as we worked on the two responsible behaviors for safety, which includes compliance with instructions and appropriate communication. Learning about these two responsible behaviors boosted our confidence more as we became more familiar with the bike and had a little bit of knowledge going into the camp as Mr. Bilsbury took us on challenging rides.…

My group members and I recently started implementing our physical activity intervention at Farmdale Elementary. Majority of my group members are currently communicating with each other to schedule who can go on what day and time. Our communication has updated all of us on the current progress status of the physical activity intervention. Unfortunately, we were not able to take weight and height on the scheduled day and time of the first week because we were not aware that the time we were scheduled to take measurements was inconvenient, so we discussed more scheduling with Mrs. Moser. Luckily, we were able to catch up with measurements of the children the following day.…

Individual development has been studied in our field for a number of generations, yet not one generation is as predictable as the last. Contemporary developmental theories have added, subtracted, and applied various approaches to understand child/adult development, but with the society increasingly growing and the millennials slowly taking over, there will be certain issues with development that will arise. In my research, I have found issues of development that closely relate to lack of delay of gratification, the decrease amount of educational play, and the developmental relationship between one and their environment. Under the public eye, the contemporary issue of today’s generation is facing a problem with continued instant gratification.…
