Observation #3: Movie Review Child Development Applications:
The first clip I watched was about a teenage boy named Christian going through depression and learning how to deal with this difficult situation. The teenager's dad also experienced this heartbreaking situation; unfortunately the dad could have been a better father while his son was needing help. If we look at Intellectual development in Piaget's theory about Concrete operations stage it says that it lasts from the age of seven until about pre-teen. "Reversibility of thought, for example, a dad is a man, but not all men are dads."(Child Development book pg.73) this means just because you have a dad it doesn't necessarily mean he takes care of, understands you or guides you to

Men and women approach differently in making moral decisions, men tend to take action immediately without thinking of the consequence and women favor personal responsibility toward others, women think before they act a certain way(Child Development book pg. 89). That explains why Jesse behaves this way, when he was called names he didn't like he immediately took action and believed that it was correct to act violent because someone was hurting him first and that made it fair. His mother explains that Jesse is angry maybe because he doesn't like the way his life is going and that he hates it. Additionally, Jesse felt that he didn't fit the crowd of people he was surrounded by because of the way he dressed and how he behaved with them. On the other hand, his father left his side by the age of three and ever since he hasn't seen him. His causes of violence; poorly adapted temperament, social reaction and social and emotional issues are factors that influenced his unpleasant decisions. We all are born to need something suggested by Konrad Lorenz's theory of bonding; if the process doesn't occur then it is not efficient and there will not be a good development. Jesse needed a man who could guide him and be there through this challenging moment of his life, and he had the sheriff and his counselor as his role models and people he could go to when he needed

Pages 305-307 → Film The day was fading into a soft sun-shot haze, pricked here and there by a yellow electric light, and passers were rare in the little square into which they had turned. Dallas stopped again, and looked up. "It must be here," he said, slipping his arm through his father 's with a movement from which Archer 's shyness did not shrink; and they stood together looking up at the house. It was a modern building, without distinctive character, but many-windowed, and pleasantly balconied up its wide cream-coloured front. On one of the upper balconies, which hung well above the rounded tops of the horse-chestnuts in the square, the awnings were still lowered, as though the sun had just left it.…

When I read the 2016 article, “Children’s TV Has a Representation Problem” by current writer and filmmaker for Huffington Post Will Bryson, I had many thoughts on what he was saying. I agree with his statement that when two same-sex characters trying to have some type of romantic relationship in kids TV the networks automatically see this relationship as “salacious and inappropriate” like Bryson says. Even though I agree with this, I have to disagree with him on the fact that children TV isn’t getting anywhere in LGBTQ+ representation. I have many family members that are still very young, between the ages of 6-13, and when I see the shows they watch I am very surprised by how far kids TV has come. My cousin watches the show Steven Universe…

The HBO special documentary “Trophy Kids” follows five children that are training in a sport forced on them by their parents, focusing on how the guidance and discipline from their parents impacts the children physically and psychologically. Many of the children in this movie were forced to play their chosen sport because of the parent’s massive financial, emotional, and time commitment. The parents are often furious when the child does not play to their expectations, they take it personally when the child shows emotion or does not preform at an elite level. This movie displays many social and ethical…

I agree with Michael that the “Poor Kids” documentary was tough to watch. Seeing the different types of impoverished living situations that people in the documentary were in was both humbling and frustrating. It was humbling in the sense that it gave me a far greater appreciation for the basic amenities and gifts that I was afforded during my childhood. I never even came remotely close to having my family struggle to survive, and for that I’m forever grateful. The documentary is especially frustrating because its subjects are right here in the United States.…

The movie “Boyhood” represents a seemingly perfect depiction of child development in a boy from ages 6 to 18. This movie is very relatable to viewers because the experiences of both Mason and his sister Stephanie are experiences every child faces from childhood to adolescence. Over the course of the movie you are able to analyze normative development in several different aspects of Mason’s life, as well as some non-normative events. More importantly, viewers are able to take notice on the effects of family and home relationships on development. Mason, the main character, experiences several broken families throughout the movie and does not have a stable family background which undoubtedly plays a key role in his development.…

Brie Del Castillo Ms. Hunt ELA 12, Period 2 8 December 2017 Daddy Issues and Angel Dust Many loved child stars are remembered for the well-known characters they play in movies and television series, but with their squeaky-clean start and pure image, it is hard to come out of that persona as they get older. Going from child actors to well-being adults, it is hard to get away with anything that is not ‘kid friendly.’ Some child actors gracefully grow up into humble adults while some former child actors jump right into adulthood and making a complete one-eighty. A great example of the duality of behaviors by child stars are two of the main characters from Shake It Up.…

The poor in American Society are the victims of the social theory referred to as CONFLICT THEORY. The theory explains that the social STRATIFICTION SYSTEM is not functioning properly and the rich benefit more from the governmental decisions at the expense of the disadvantaged, those who rightly need the assistance. This theory is shockingly apparent in the Frontline documentary “Poor Kids”. This film follows the lives of three families’ struggling to deal with life’s most crippling situations the best way they can. The film demonstrates that being poor is not always a question of a PERSONAL PROBLEM related to the ABUSE of drugs or alcohol, but of a SOCIAL PROBLEM with unemployment, lack of job opportunities, and in this particular film, recession.…

In the overall context of the film, what do you make of the end scene--Kiyoshi getting killed, instead of selling Makoto (at the end of the film?), and Makoto 's jump from the moving car? Cruel Story of Youth is a very dark film, unlike as in earlier movies such as Giants and toys, where the movie is about the higher echelons of Postwar Japan: such as the corporate world and the lives of the newly well to do. Cruel Story of Youth explores the life of Japan’s impoverished urban youth. The life of Kiyoshi represents a continuous cycle of abuse needed to support a meek existence.…
