If a juvenile committed a crime do you think they should spent their childhood and adulthood in prison for life? The Supreme court ruled that juveniles who commit crimes should not be sentenced to life in prison because it violates the 8th amendment. However some judges strongly disagree that juveniles who commit heinous crimes should always be punished with a sentence of life in prison. From my point of view juveniles who commit crimes should be accountable for their crimes but they shouldn’t get life in prison. Firstly, I disagree because most juveniles are at a young age and their brain is not fully developed.…

Biological, Sociological, and Psychological Theories It is not secret that people are out committing crimes every day in the streets of our communities. Over the years there have been many theories developed in order to help understand why it is that people decide to take part in some of these criminal acts, while some people stand together and claim that this is a result of poor parenting and others arguing that it is due to the environment that the child is around. Regardless of one’s point of view, it is very clear that crimes are occurring and that biological, sociological, and psychological theories have been developed in an attempt to help understand why it is that some individuals take part in these crimes. For this week’s unit paper we are to summarize and provide an example of how biological, sociological, and psychological theories of crime causation affect human behavior and actions. Biological theories believe that somewhere there is a biological difference that make criminals commit crimes. There are two different theories that I feel could relate to this and those two would be neuroscience and genetics. Many people do not understand that the brain is very complex and fragile organ which can be damaged by traumatic injury, tumors, neurodevelopment disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, vascular lesions and many other causes. You may hear this in the court room a lot of times especially with juvenile’s.…

INTRODUCTION/COVER LETTER: The classic novel, "In Cold Blood", is based on a true story about the murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas in 1959. The dialog acts as if it was written as a novel, even as a part of the nonfiction genre. It's known as a true crime masterpiece which pricks the psychological and emotional toll that the murder gives the readers, in America's heartland. Svein Atle Skålevåg gives a rhetorical approach to the crime novel, stating that it was a "true account of murder" and that it was also a "work of art".…

Correctional knowledge by the public is heavily based on media portrayals of the prison system. The media utilizes four main types of prison film narratives to tell the stories of inmates and the corrections system. The first type of prison narrative is the “nature of confinement” prison film (Surette, 2015). In this narrative, the prisoners are portrayed as victims of injustice, often have been framed for a crime they did not commit, a chance accident, or pushed into crime by forces beyond their control. Consequently, these films from 1929 to 1942 tend to highlight the corruption of the prison system and backwards laws.…
