Personal Response
I thought Child Called It was a hard book to read. The book was not hard with the wording, the hard part of the book was the storyline. I believe no child should have to go through the life David had. The sad thing is things like that still happen. When David was dealing with his mother, and is father could see is pain. He did not do anything to help him.

Plot
Child Called It starts with David getting away. He is in the office and the nurse and principal talked to him. He spilled he told them things he was brainwashed not to say. The police officer told him he would take him somewhere safe. When the officer called his mother she was told a different story, she was told her son was going to a juvenile detention center. Then

Emotional, compassionate and shocking book has caught many attentions. Dave Pelzer, which is the main character in the book, describes many tragic and traumatizing "punishments" he had gone through because of his mother. He was starved, beaten and was just plain tortured by her. Going to school seem like a get away from home and her. So stealing food just to have a full stomach for the day seemed like a good idea until kids found out.…

The Venting of Children The book of choice that I read over the summer was P.D. James’ dystopian sci-fi novel The Children of Men. The Children of Men is about a world in which women have no longer been able to give birth and the hopes for the future is vacant. The story follows historian Dr. Theodore Faron as he copes with his present reality by reminiscing in the past. Theo has lived a life of misery and apathy having only one true friend, his cousin, the Warden of England.…

Play is essential for children’s lives; author Hanna Rosin’s article “The Overprotected Kid” demonstrates how parenting styles and fear have inhibited children’s play, harming their development. Places like “The Land” are attempting to make up for the missing element in children’s play by giving them the freedom to explore and make their own decisions, and in turn accept the natural consequences. These missing aspects of play affect children physiologically. One of the culprits could be how parenting styles have changed, therefore the behavior of their children has changed. These changes did not happen randomly; they could base on the accessibility to information these days.…
