Child advocacy is when a group of adults or an individuals get together and advocate on the behalf of children, who are unable to speak up for themselves or unable to address a certain issue that affects their lives or lifestyle. An example of child advocacy is when Katie Becks wanted a fundamental change in Medicaid policy in 1980s. She felt that certain expenses for the needs for special needs children would be cheaper to administrate at home vs in the hospital where it costed twice as much. (Kotch, 2013) . Child advocacy can be someone nonrelated to an issue, it can just be some observing something they do not agree with it. It does not always start with the parent or someone experiencing a typical issue first hand. Child advocacy can be expressed in more than one way, through a defender, protector, mediator, supporter, investigator, promoter and or a counselor. WIC was created to help low income families with children or smaller children. It was a safety net put in place to make sure food was available to the families in need. Because during those time hunger and starvation was a real issue during these times, it still is today. It was created to help pregnant women, infants and children up to age of six. In today's time that same mission is being upheld; it is still in place to help families. There may not be enough money to purchase food or the population may live in a neighborhood where the food is not sold or is too high to purchase.
