Based on the book “Child Welfare”, there are factors that are being neglected when considering the effects of child abuse. First, the age of the child is vital. Second, the development status when the abuse occurred, the severity of maltreatment and finally, the relation between the child and preparatory. Thus, these factors can lead to health problems like bruises, broken bones, and hemorrhage. There were some studies made in 2007 by “Administration for Children and Families, Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation” about maltreatment during three years. Those researchers found that there is high percentage of children who have a chronic health condition. One of those health conditions was abusive head trauma which means: “inflicted injury to the head and its contents caused by shaking and blunt impact, is the most common cause of traumatic death for infants. The injuries may not be immediately noticeable and may include bleeding in the eye or brain and damage to the spinal cord and neck”. The development of the brain takes place during infancy so it is important to limit the maltreatment. This point was mention in “long term consequences of child abuse and neglect ” …show more content…
Other studies suggest that: “abused or neglected children are more likely to engage in sexual risk-taking as they reach adolescence, thereby increasing their chances of contracting a sexually transmitted disease”.
Plus to that it was reported that: “there is high percentage of Victims of children who are sexually abused, and the rate of risk increases according to the severity of the child sexual abuse experience” (long term consequences of child abuse and neglect-2013-p.5).
Plus to that child abuse may lead to drug and alcohol abuse which is shown in some researches that reflects: “an increased percentage in children who have experienced abuse and maltreatment will lead to smoke cigarettes, alcohol abuse, and taking illicit drugs during their lifetime”. In reality, male children who experienced this maltreatment are “above 3,000 percent”, and all that push them to use illicit drugs later in life. These studies were mentioned in “long term consequences of child abuse and neglect”
