One common effect is the lack of trust with others, and difficulty with relationships. Abuse by parents is often times the cause of this lack of trust, because children feel that if they can’t trust their parents, they can’t trust anyone else either. Without this base trust with the parents, it is hard for children to build trusting relationships with others. Many abused children also feel as if they are worthless, and undeserving. This may be due to being told that they are stupid by caregivers relentlessly throughout their lives. This can cause these children later in life to settle for less than they should, because they feel as if they are not worth a better situation. Physical, sexual, and emotional abuse are the three types of abuse that can occur to children. The best person to catch these forms of abuse is a child’s teachers, due to the consistency of their presence in a child’s life. Oftentimes children can get stressed out during events such as a parent’s divorce, where they have to choose between living with two parents. Sometimes the parent they choose states to continue living with them they must achieve good grades, or else they must live with the other parent, which can cause emotional trauma on the child.
