Rorschach is also known as, Walter Joseph Kovacs, the son of a prostitute who grew up around the atmosphere of child abuse and neglect. The abuse is first seen in chapter six when he is shown inkblots by a psychiatrist. In a flashback, Walter walks in on his mother entertaining a man in her bedroom, after hearing his mother say the man was “hurting” her. As soon as she realizes that he is watching her, his mother’s first instinct is to hit him across the face. She refers to Walter as an “ugly little bastard,” while complaining about what he had “cost” her for interrupting her job. Additionally, Walter’s mother ends by stating that she “shoulda had the abortion,” commenting on how Walter has been the cause of all the struggle in her life. By
