It can affect an individual 's ability to connect with people, which can lead to the child not feeling secure and/or stable in relationships. Certain developmental concerns of child abuse are a child’s lack of capacity to communicate needs or wishes, lack of ability to identify and/or cope with emotions, need for control and triggers (which are intense emotions, numbing and/or shutting down.) Abuse can also lead to other problems with boundaries, distrust and social isolation. Studies show that 80% of children who have been abused demonstrate disorganized attachment patterns. However, according to the Nova Scotia legislation, children are “entitled to protection from abuse and neglect. They also have the basic rights and fundamental freedoms no less than those of adults and a right to special safeguards and assistance in the preservation of those rights and freedoms” (Child and Family Services, Chapter 5.) These two laws can be put in effect the minute someone reports child abuse. Child protection services are put in place to protect a child 's basic needs and rights, when someone reports abuse, they get reported to them. These workers then set out to get the child out of the situation as it is there job to protect that child no matter what. If a child abuse case is brought to court, the guardian can get from a 2 year sentence to a life time sentence in jail for abusing a child, depending on the situation and how bad any wounds are.
There are multiple ways that child abuse can have a negative effect on a child 's future. Whether it is physical, sexual, neglect or emotional abuse, they can all have a critical effect on a kid that can follow them all their life. This abuse can affect their future, leaving them with either permanent visible wounds or mental wounds. It is a person’s job to report any suspected child abuse to a child protection agency just as it is a person’s job to report a crime. Every child deserves a childhood
