“The body remembers. Stuffed until an event, a sound, a sight, a touch, a word or a person awakens them.” According to UNICEF Canada, almost 3,500 children die from physical abuse and/or neglect every year. Child abuse has a negative affect on a child 's future, whether it affects the child mentally, physically or on their relationships. Sadly, child abuse is a historical development and only recently, has it been seen as a major social problem. Certain may argue that it’s a parents right to do whatever they want to their child, including abusing (or punishing them,) for whatever moral or religious reasons they may have. However, most don’t consider the lasting results it can have on the child.
Child abuse is classified as a parent or guardian causing injury, death or emotional harm to a child. This could be categorized as neglect (when the caregiver doesn 't provide for the basic emotional and/or physical needs of the child) and emotional abuse (a pattern of rejection, isolation, degrading, terrorizing or exploiting for a personal gain.) This could also be classified as physical abuse (minor or serious injuries, shaken baby syndrome, inappropriate and/or excessive discipline,) and/or sexual abuse (involvement by a person in ANY form of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 as result of threats, bribes, guilt, force or misrepresentation.)
