Officer Jody Standridge was dispatched to the front desk of the Muskogee Police Department in reference to taking a child abuse report. Once on scene he made contact with Chyanne’s grandmother, Judy Ament. Judy informed Officer Standridge that Chyanne went to visit her mother, Debra Hanks, while her dad, Michael Jenkins was out of town.
During the visit, Chyanne said her mother came to her room to talk to her about why she has not been visiting as much. The conversation quickly turned into an argument and Debra began yelling and screaming at Chyanne, accusing Chyanne of telling her dad and grandmother lies about her. Debra spoke with Michael on the phone explaining to him that Chyanne was being disrespectful. They came up with a solution of Chyanne’s aunt, Shelly Clay, to come and get her.
Chyanne packed her belongings and the argument continued. Chyanne said her mother then slapped her on the right side of her face, knocking her into a dresser and knocking over a lamp. Chyanne’s aunt got there and she left.
On July 21st, 2016 Chyanne was scheduled for a forensic interview regarding possibly being suicidal. I was speaking with Megan Merrill, who is the forensic interviewer for Kids’ Space Child Advocacy Center. Ms. Merrill said she was interviewing a child for being suicidal and possibly cutting. She asked if law enforcement was involved or wanted to be present for the interview. I asked the child’s name and when she said Chyanne Jenkins, I knew I had her as a victim on an open investigation in reference to child abuse. I asked who brought her to the interview.
