Kentucky is known for many things, we have the prettiest green grass, the freshest bourbon, and the most exciting event known to man, the derby. Unfortunately another thing that we are leading the nation with is child abuse and neglect. Did you know that a report of child abuse is made every ten seconds? More than half of those reports just get tossed to the side and forgotten about. As a college student who was emotionally abused as a child I understand what it is like and believe that it is a problem that needs to be addressed and taken care of. In your county (Frankfort) you have been recorded to have the highest reports for child abuse. I am aware though that the number of deaths for children have gone down significantly but the number is still too high for me. In 2008 there were 31 cases of children under the age of 10 dying from child abuse. Then in 2009 there where a 29 and cases, and now we are down to 11 cases a year. Even though that is a huge decrease from 2009 you also have to think about the children who are not only being abuse physically but the other three forms of abuse which are not reported. There are a total of four types of child abuse, those are physical, sexual, neglect and emotional. All of these forms of abuse have a way of coming back to haunt that child when they become an adult.
