Abuse is an epidemic in our community, with the meta- analysis conducted by Mathews, Bromfield, Walsh, Cheng & Norman, (2017), stating the first incidence of sexual abusing typically occurring at age 8 to 9 years old, a non-penetrating act was around 30% for women and 15% for men, these numbers halved for women and a third of that for males when looking at a penetration act.
One category is the physical abuse which is any harm done to any part of the child’s body including burning, hitting or use of deliberate force. (Tilbury, Osmond, Wilson & Clark, 2007).

Those families within a low socio-economical area or with a lower educational background may also find raising children difficult leading to abuse of their children due to lack of knowledge and awareness of support (Tilbury, Osmond, Wilson & Clark, 2007).
Children and parents who have unsecure attachment, due to either pre and post-natal concerns can affect a child’s risk of abuse. Families with an unsecure attachment tend to be lacking the protective factors within the relationship, potentially leading to harm for the child. (Doyle, 1997).
While the child may be more at risk due to age and behaviour, the other link to abuse of children is when their parents themselves have medical or mental health concerns. These parents pose a higher threat of abuse in relation to their children due to the adversities they face personally. Tilbury, Osmond, Wilson & Clark,
