Dave Pelzer once said, “Childhood should be carefree, playing in the sun; not living a nightmare in the darkness of the soul.” Child abuse is when a parent or a caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, cause injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. Child abuse comes in different forms. Children are abuse either through neglect, physical, sexual, exploitation, and/ or emotional abuse. Child abuse is a lot more than bruises and broken bones, while physical abuse is visible to the human eye other forms of abuse also can leave emotional scars. When you ignore children’s needs, leaving them alone, putting them in dangerous situation, or even making a child feel worthless or stupid you are participating in child abuse. No matter what type of abuse it is, it will still cause emotional harm to the child. Even though physical abuse is visible, children can also receive scars from emotional and neglect. Physical abuse is more than just someone beating on their child. Another form of physical abuse would be sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is very difficult to acknowledge expectually when you realize that children of all ages and even infants are getting abuse every day. Child sexual abuse is when an older man or woman sexually touch a child. It also includes non- touching offenses and sexual exploitation, which are just as harmful and devastating to a child’s well- being. Child sexual abuse can effect a child far beyond childhood.
