Title Each year there are around 258,115 child abductions. That is around 707 a day. Each child abductor has a reason for taking these children. Some for ransom, sexual assault, a child of their own, trafficking, custody disagreements, revenge, and more reasons that are less common. Whatever the reason may be, abduction of children is a very big problem in today’s society. Almost every child abductor has something in common with another. For example, ninety-five percent of child abductors are men (Duenwald 2002). Along with that they are typically unmarried, and have few friends. Men are not the only people who abduct children. Similar to the child trafficking in China and other countries, some abductors will take children for ransom. An incident in Philadelphia involved a seven-year-old getting kidnapped (Duenwald 2002). The person who kidnapped her demanded $150,000. While some abductors use the ransom money for themselves in this case police believed that the ransom was used in a disagreement between drug dealers.
Today there are not as many stranger abductions as there used to be. In fact stranger abductions make up less than one percent of child abductions today. It is estimated that soon there will be one hundred or less a year (Robinson 2016). Still, even though these kidnappings are less common, most parents and everyone worry about these more. This might be because when children are kidnapped by a family member they’re rarely harmed. They’re also normally found soon after being reported missing. Even though most child abductors share some common traits, some of the population of child abductors is too diverse to come up with one description. Not every child abductor has to be a male, lonely, a mother without custody, or any of these things. It would be helpful if every person that abducted a child was the exact same. It would be easier to catch these people, and even prevent them from kidnapping another
