Imagine dropping your kid off at school one day. You give them a hug, tell them you love them, and watch as they walk through the school door. Hours later when school is over, you wait for them to come home from the bus, and you wait, and wait, until you realize, something is not right. Child abduction is a very serious problem. In the United States alone, every 40 seconds a child becomes missing or abducted. The amount of adults that are abducted is two times less than the amount of children abducted. Why is that? In most of these cases, the child is safely returned. Acquaintance kidnapping is the next most common form and makes up about twenty-seven percent of abductions. This is an abduction committed by someone the child is familiar with, such as a friend or a caregivers. These abductions are considered the most dangerous, with the highest percentage of physical and sexual abuse, and result in more injuries. Surprisingly, child abduction by a stranger is the least common form of abduction, making up about twenty-four percent of abductions.
