Child Abandoned Drugs destroy people’s lives daily. The “Quit Smoking Commercial” made by the organization, Quit, is targeting parents who are shortening their lives by the use of cigarettes. Since smoking destroys lives, he or she ultimately abandons their child by smoking, leaving them lost in this cold world. The advertisement pierces into the hearts of parents by presenting a metaphorical situation where a child losing his mother in a train station represents a mother dying leaving a child behind without a mother. The pathos and ethos created by the child crying provoke the emotions of all parents, and the child is crying innocent tears, giving the commercial credibility, almost forcing a parent that smokes to consider what it would be like to leave his or her child alone without a parent. Observing a child crying forces emotions to flow throughout the souls of parents. As soon as this commercial begins, the advertisement presents the young child walking hand in hand with his mother. This provides a connection with parents and intrigues the viewer because they want to know what is going to happen to this cute little toddler. The tears from the young boy create a numerous amount of pathos, but at the same time, those tears address ethos, allowing the advertisement’s argument to become even stronger. A viewer can feel the deep sorrow and mourning that the child feels when he or she witness the poor little boy’s emotions come over him and he begins to weep.
