Child A was born into a non nuclear family with mother, Linda Edward and step father. The family resided in a two bedroom house, in a low socio-economic area of Essex. Social services initially became involved with the family when Child A was 5 years old; following concerns raised by the local primary school regards neglect and sexualised behaviour. Following intervention, it became apparent that the step father had exposed Child A to pornographic material, plying him with alcohol, on multiple occasions and had also been physically violent to Linda; whilst Child A was present in the room. Subsequently, the step father left the family home. Social services however, remained involved with both Linda and Child A as Linda found the sudden departure of her partner difficult and in addition she required support with basic parenting skills. …show more content…
The assault, committed by two men and had taken place when Child A had gone to use a public toilet in a supermarket. It became clear that Child A had told his mother, Linda, about the assault, a few days after it had occurred however the mother did not believe it to fusible and did not take action. A police investigation followed; however CCTV did not capture the scene. The lack of evidence resulted in the investigation going stale, thus, prosecution was not obtained. Despite, no conviction, the therapy team whom were then supporting Child A, remain adamant that the clarity and precision in Child A’s recollection of the event, suggest that the sexual assault did take
