The Chief of State is the third major role of the modern governor. This is a very important and primary role of governorship in today’s world. This role represents and includes the state. This position is a major role for internal and external views of the state. In multiple political situations, there are two different people who take on roles as the chief of state and as well as chief executive. This position deals with crisis and will likely be called on during a time of crisis until it has been settled. The president has always had the right to make his selection on who he wanted as attorney general, it has been this way since George Washington chose Edmund Randolph. These attorneys general are the main actors of the Federal system and have the ability to sue whoever they want and choose any case that has interest to them. But, they generally stayed out of trouble throughout history up until the 1980’s. During this time they began to realize how much power they have if they chose to use it. Tom Miller was the first to spark this thought and began to file lawsuits against funeral homes, pharmacist and tobacco companies. In the 1990’s began the best time period for attorneys general’s, this is where a group of them got together and sued tobacco companies and achieved over $200 billion dollars. Later into the 2000’s, republicans believed that the democrats were being “bullies,” and chose to form the RAGA. They soon sued the government stating the the new health care law was unconstitutional and this led to a huge uproar. Governors of these representatives in the RAGA, began to deny their attorneys general’s and said they had nothing to do with them anymore.
