Chief Mac being replaced by Chief King after a nationwide search for a qualified police chief has left many in the depart feeling a bit betrayed. Autocratic leaders such as Chief Mac and Chief King are old school leaders that lead with a iron fist. Leaders of this type are not usually well like by the members of the departments due to resentment because of past decisions on disciplinary actions handed down through the years. Chief King has the opportunity to establish a new entirely new department but he must change his attitude and the attitude of the entire department. The first item that Chief King must address is integrity both his and the entire department. The chief has a questionable past within the department and possible with members of the department itself. Many of the members in the department have resentment towards the chief because of how he obtained promotions throughout his career. In order for Chief King he must become more like the image he displays when out in the communities throughout his jurisdiction. I was taught very early in my career to treat the public and my co-workers as if they were family members. The family within the department is often very dysfunctional and unfortunately we often treat our fellow co-worker worse than anyone else. I have often seen members disrespect their co-workers in the wide open and in worst possible ways. This must be completely eliminated if the chief is to form a cohesive, well equipped and trained department to protect the public and insure that every effort is made so members are able to home to their family and loved ones. Treating even the worst criminal with respect is obtain difficult but successfully applied the offender is easier to deal with, but there are always exceptions to every rule so always stay vigilant when dealing with
