My rhetorical ecology’s primary goal is to articulate the many levels of statistical data surrounding gun control in the US. I start off the presentation with the Bill of Rights and immediately provide commentary from individuals who played a fundamental role in the foundation of the United States. Then, I state current gun control laws currently in place. From here on out, I expand on specific analytics: mass shootings, other deadlier killers, and total firearm violence. The audience this argument appeals to is people who react to gun control regulations after mass shootings occur.…
The article that I chose to analyze is “After Sandy Hook, we’ll never be silent on guns again”, by Shannon Watts from CNN. When I look at this article, I can easily find the target audience in this article. The target audience is American moms. Since Watts delivers the message that Moms have to be banding together to alter the American culture of gun violence in this article, the target audience can be defined as moms in the U.S.…
The Kansas City Preventive Patrol Experiment was done in October 1972 through 1973. This experiment was conducted to determine if changes in patrolling had an effect on reducing crime, changing the public perception on police, reducing fear on crime within the community and also to help address the public concerns with the police. The researchers had three types of experiment also known as “beats” the first beat was proactive patrols- where police patrols were visibly increased by two to three times. Some by vehicles. The second beat was Reactive where no routine patrol was available but officers responded to 911 calls.…
The most recent estimate of more than 30,000 gangs represents a 15 percent increase from 2006 and is the highest annual estimate since 1996. Gang violence in America has been a major problem in this country which affects several communities and several major cities all throughout America. If gang violence awareness can be more available to areas where it is most popular and holding seminars and informational classes about what the gang life can cause, then there will be a decrease in gang related activity. In America, there has been a rapid increase in gang violence and gang related activity which affects the countries major cities. While larger cities and suburban counties expectedly report higher numbers of gangs, there is also considerable variation within each area type.…
Rachel Bortnik Dr. Ted Vaggalis PHIL 316: Ethics 8 December 2017 Society’s Rights and Happiness Concerning Guns In Jeff McMahan’s essay, Why Gun ‘Control’ Is Not Enough, he argues for a ban on societies gun ownership—except for police and military services are still allowed to handle a gun. The purpose of McMahan’s argument is to resolve the danger guns cause in societies environment and the issue of guns being in the wrong hands. McMahan focuses on both the anti-gun advocates and the gun advocates disagreement of why or why not guns needs to be banned. Many scenarios are presented from both points of views.…
Gun control is one of the greatest issues facing the American people today. Pro gun control lobbyists are influencing citizen’s minds by putting the notion into people's head that fewer guns increase safety. Where is the social logic in this? What about the statistical logic? A well known and credible source, the NRA-ILA has data that shuts down gun control activists, saying, “Since 1991, when violent crime hit an all-time high, the nation’s violent crime rate and its murder rate have decreased by more than half, as Americans have acquired over 170 million new guns, roughly doubling the number of privately owned guns in the United States”(NRA-ILA).…
William S. LaPierre from “Crime is the Basic Problem, Not Guns” claims that, “America has a crime problem, not a gun problem.” Anti-gun activists believe that by taking guns away the crime rate will drop. They believe it is too dangerous for the public especially for our children. If a new gun law were to be put in place, one that would state that guns are illegal, crime would most likely not change. People would be left defenseless against criminals.…

Imagine this… a lady is sitting in a chair, just working at home. Then she hears the door creak open, so she looks up with the eye of an eagle. While doing this, searches for any unusual movement. She sees nothing, so she just thinks it’s the wind and goes back to work. All of a sudden, she sees a man in her line of vision.…
These fallacies, such as, crime has decreased, society is safer, over militarization of our law enforcement, lack of gun control. Refusing to acknowledge the truth will not help the situation, moreover, blaming any increase of violence on police brutality or lack of gun control is absurd. Washington D.C. created a ban on handguns in 1975,…
The argument is that this man got these guns with little effort and others think that this was a rare occasion and that more gun control will not help. Some people think that more gun control would reduce the amount of violence. Christine…
That not only will not decrease the number of criminals have guns, but also decrease the number of law-abiding citizens have guns, which make law-abiding citizens lose ability of self – protection. The more important thing is that sources of crime is the people’s thoughts and desires. Each of the shootings the killers was the person who shot, not the gun itself. The Government cannot simply rudely to solve this problem by the way of the gun ban. In the article “Just Take Away Their Guns”, James Q. Wilson wrote that “Our goal should not be the disarming of law-abiding citizens.…
The Effects of Gun Control Do you think that guns are hurting our society? Gun control is a highly debated topic about whether guns should be allowed to be owned by citizens. Many people think that guns are causing more deaths, but others believe they are saving lives. Gun control is ineffective because gun ownership reduces crime, gun control laws go against the 2nd amendment, and guns create a safer society.…
Increased gun control is needed to reduce incidents of gun violence in the U.S. Contention 1: States with stricter gun control laws have fewer deaths from gun-related violence compared to states with more lax laws Gun-related violence can be associated with the the restrictions put in place by certain states. According to a study put together by the Harvard School of Public Health, states in which guns are more prevalent--as in Wyoming, where 63% of households reported owning guns--rates of suicide were higher. The inverse was also true: where gun ownership was less common, suicide rates were also lower. This statement was supported by a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health Professor of Health Policy David Hemenway. Hemenway quotes in this study that “studies show that most (suicide) attempters act on impulse, in moments of panic or despair.…
According to a study published in 2012, the number of gun-related murders committed is at its lowest rate since 1981, even with an increased amount of people owning firearms (Gun Rhetoric, 2012). On the opposite side of the spectrum, those that support stricter gun control policies argue that the Second Amendment does not provide an unlimited right to own guns (US Supreme Court). Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment is as dated as The Constitution and that it was intended only for militia . Nowhere in the Second Amendment is it explicitly stated that it was created to protect an individual’s right to bear arms (Waldman,…
