For example, in the number “Roxie (the name on Everyone’s lips)” the shot began with Roxie glancing upon herself in front of twelve mirrors which symbolizes that she is in love with every angle of herself and imagines herself to be the “star” she thinks she is yet to become. As she is dancing among numerous men, it is shown that the hot, white spotlight falls directly on her. In addition to this number, at one point Roxie was dancing above a marquee that spelled “ROXIE” in bright red which signified that she wanted everyone to think of her as a big-named superstar. Another example is in the “Cell Block Tango” where at one point there was a silhouette of female prisoners brightly lit with a distinctive rose red color while they were contained in their jail cells. The dance numbers not only enhanced the film but included symbolism and divergent interpretations on the scene it followed or was in. The plot of Chicago was not as strong as I’d hoped to be but I think the dance numbers greatly made up for this. Personally I’d like to give the movie Chicago 4.5/5 stars greatly accounting the short and sweet length of the film, well-built characters and strong character development, and engaging item numbers
